BTT and stuffs.

Oh for pete's sake, I already missed my first scheduled Booking Through Thursday by a day. I blame the migraine (it was a bad one).

Have you ever met one of your favorite authors? Gotten their autograph?
How about an author you felt only so-so about, but got their autograph anyway? Like, say, at a book-signing a friend dragged you to?
How about stumbling across a book signing or reading and being so captivated, you bought the book?

The only author I've met is Tedd Arnold, an author and illustrator of children's books who happens to live in this area. (He's a really nice guy.) I met him because my mother is an elementary school librarian; I attended the event, and there may be a book somewhere that is autographed to me, but even if there is I don't believe I was the one to ask him to do it.

I do have a couple of autographed books in my collection: a signed hardcover of Maeve Binchy's Quentins, which I found at a huge used book sale; and a signed paperback of Madeleine L'engle's A Wrinkle in Time. That one is particularly significant to me because she passed away this year.

Anyway... last night Mom and I finished watching the Channel 4/HBO miniseries on Queen Elizabeth I, titled (appropriately enough) "Elizabeth I." We almost didn't make it through the whole thing... Netflix sent it in two parts, and had the second part not been already winging its way to me, I might have cancelled it. I'm really glad now that I didn't. The setting and costuming and casting in this miniseries are phenomenal, and yet the portrayal of Elizabeth I as a woman who would scream and rant in public, or be making snarky comments out of the corner of her mouth during important political summits sort of rankled. I'd like to think she had a bit more dignity and decorum; then again, she was the Queen, who would have stopped her? And on top of that, she could have been EXACTLY like that. *shrug* By the end of the second DVD it had totally pulled me in, and best of all it's sending me to the bookshelves etc. to learn more about Elizabeth and her life. And that's never a bad thing.

It's been a week today since Bryon left for Guard. We talk on the phone every day, but I still miss him. :( One more week before his visit, and then he'll be gone for one week beyond that. In the meantime I'm keeping busy. Tomorrow: apple-picking and a giant book sale with friends—what more could I ask for!?!

Have you ever been to the Ithaca book sale?? IT'S HEAVEN ON EARTH... :D This is the second weekend of it - so the prices are lower than week 1 but it's not as picked over as on Bag Day. (which is next weekend.)

Maybe I'll see you there.. :D

I loved Helen Mirren in the HBO Elizabeth. What an amazing series! I could have done without some of the graphic execution scenes though. :P Oh and Jeremy Irons; love him!
